A couple weeks ago, we were in the Freda area, taking in a view of the Stamp Mill from out on a frozen Lake Superior. Today we get to revisit the Freda area, with Melody Provost Holmes, who snapped some shots around the stamp mill from on land.
I love her first shot of the Veteran's Honor Roll with the flag proudly waving in the wind, then off in the distance you can see Lake Superior all covered in ice. The mining ruins are barely visible in the winter, all covered in snow, but that smoke stack always stands out, marking the spot where the stamp mill once stood.
Melody's last photo is one of those things that someone randomly does that brings a smile to anyone who passes by. Just a simple painted grin on a stump covered with snow, which probably only took a few minutes to spray on, but the grins it will produce on folks passing by will go on for quite some time.

One of these days we just have to go exploring this area! Have only been out there once and didn't have time to explore the ruins.

Nice pix, even with the snow! We are getting snobbered (snow/clobbered) here in SE-MI today, but Spring is just around the corner :-)

I wonder when these ruins were cleaned up. I remember being there in 1974 to 76 when there was much more rubble from buildings and partial buildings were still standing. Now all that remains is the smokestack and the foundations.

oh well, I am still liking it.
Mary says: It took me a while to figure out what you were referring to mickill mouse, but now I see it. On the Pasty Cam page - the page with the photos for the entire week, to the right of the photos, it says: Tueday (no "s"), March 12
I don't have access to that page to correct that, so I've contacted Charlie to help with that.
As for the What'sUP link, mickill...on the same page, the one with all the photos for the week, the link that is on the side of Wednesday's photo is not correct, it takes you to March 10 What'sUP page. I've mentioned that to Charlie, too. Another way to get to the What'sUP page for the day, is a link on the Main Page (the page with the days photos on it), just click on the link right under the last daily photo, right above my note for the day and that will take you to the What'sUP page, too.
One additional way to reach the daily page and the What'sUP page, is to click on the "Cam Notes in the last 24 hours" link. You'll find that, again on the page with all the photos for the week (we refer to that page as the Pasty Cam page). Click here and you'll be taken back to that page: Pasty Cam page Now, on the right side of the page, just above the white box where the "Day in History" links are, you'll find the "Cam Notes" link right between the word WOW and the Guest Gallery-UP Photos. You can click on that link and it will give you links to the Main Page and the What'sUP pages that have had comments on them in the past 24 hours.
Hope this isn't too confusing, but rather, helpful to you and the rest of our visitors!

Maybe it's your server, Mickill ~ they sometimes do weird stuff.

Mary says: You're welcome. I hope the information was helpful to others trying to navigate around the webpage, too.
Charlie has the What'sUP link that wasn't working correctly, fixed now. Plus it says, Wednesday, March 12, to the right of the photo now, too. Thanks Charlie!! :-)

Would appreciate knowing how to get down to the ruins and smokestack at Freda?
By Peter Hanrahan (Pete) on Thursday, March 13, 2014 - 02:04 pm:
Would appreciate someone explaining how to get down to the Freda ruins by car or hiking.
By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, March 14, 2014 - 09:50 pm:
I believe you pretty much have to walk down there, Peter. It's fenced off to drive down to the beach. It's privately owned.
