Nicky Outinen recently took advantage of the sunshine and headed out to Big Traverse on the shores of Lake Superior, where she found a good size shelf, with thick icicles hanging down from underneath. Love the view looking out between.
Nicky was also treated to some interesting ice accumulations made even more intriguing by the glint of the sun on the sheets of ice pushed and stacked. The broken and refrozen ice must have accumulated before the expanse further out in the Big Lake froze over. Seems funny to see it all cut up and rough, then smooth, except for what looks like a few cracks in the surface.
Even frozen, Lake Superior is a force to be reckoned with and not the place to take chances walking out on the ice. Better to view it from afar, with a zoom lens like Nicky did. Thanks for the icy view!
