Good Morning, Deb and everyone. I love the winter photos and the ones with the dogs. :-) We are supposed to get more rain today, followed by snow tomorrow and tomorrow night here in mid-Michigan. Our sidewalks, driveway, and subdivision streets are still really icy since we had rain on top of the snow this weekend. Several of the rural school districts are still closed because of their secondary roads. Have a good day!

Our daughter and son in law are in Vegas enjoying 70+ temps for the week. They picked a great week to go, as she inherited my love for horses, Vegas is celebrating The Chinese Year of the Horse. The pictures she's sending me are awesome!

Sweet pic, Janie, but.....where are the horses and bunnies, they need a snuggle too.;>

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, January 13, 2014 - 01:59 pm:

They get their snuggles when we go down to the barn where they are. No one is forgotten here. We make Life great on our farm!

I have no doubt about that, Janie. Very fortunate pets!

Oh sometimes they have their naughty moments that usually end up being hilarious acts! ;)

Having lived in Henderson, NV, I can attest that there is plenty to do in the Vegas area besides throw your money away. I believe the only time were on The Strip was when friends came into town to visit and begged us to take them there. Otherwise the only time we ever walked into one of "those" places was to have dinner; the buffets are amazing but wow, can you pack the pounds on......

Depending on how long they are there Janie, I could recommend a few good spots to visit that are not too far away.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, January 13, 2014 - 07:21 pm:

Capt, they will be there tomorrow and Wednesday full days, then they catch their flight back Thurs. A.M. I know they are seeing the Hoover Dam, what are some of the attractions you know of? So cool of you to offer attraction ideas!! Thank You!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, January 13, 2014 - 09:03 pm:

Well if they have a car, they can drive out west on Charleston Blvd to Red Rocks Recreation Area. Its a short distance from Vegas proper and very beautiful in the morning and early afternoon. Nearby to Red Rocks is Spring Mountain Ranch, especially if she's into horses. And, the drive to both have a chance to see wild burros. Hoover Dam is a good choice as well. Otherwise most everything else is a couple hour drive, such as Death Valley and the drive to Logandale.

Hope this helps; this is fantastic time of year to visit......

Capt. Thank You! I will e mailed her your suggestions. She loves horses/burros, she's my kid after all..... lol! Many thanks again!!

Capt.

I am in LV all week. Heading out to explore Death Valley on Wednesday. Been to Hoover Dam several times, Red Rock park is very nice as well as the drive up Mt Charleston. Last January I made it out and back to Zion NP in a day (only fell in the river once). Wanted to go to Bryce Canyon NP this year but it's a bit too far for even an overnight.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 - 06:51 am:

You will love Death Valley, DA! For a geologist and outdoor person alike, it is such a magical place to visit and explore. When the Dr. and I were there in 95, it was springtime and after a wet winter all the wildflowers were out. It was simply amazing to see Death Valley covered with colour!! We also had the truck that day so we drove out to Racetrack Playa where the "moving rocks" are and pondered how they move about.

WOW! Lots of ideas if I ever get out to LV, which
I don't plan to do. But you never know! Sounds
like fun :-)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 - 09:44 am:

We 'passed through' LV one time, enroute from CA to OH.;> The surrounding area is beautiful ~ the town? ~ no desire to visit.
