With all the snow we've been getting, it's piling up on roofs all over the Copper Country, including the Calumet Colosseum roof. But not to worry, the Calumet Copper Kings Hockey team recently grabbed shovels and climbed up there to shovel off the locker room roof. Good thing, too, because it is the 100 year anniversary for that historic home for hockey here in the Keweenaw, so maintaining it like this will keep it around for years to come. This facility is said to be the oldest indoor ice arena in North America.
There were a number of games played at the Colosseum (formerly known as the Calumet Armory) last weekend in honor of the facility's anniversary, including junior teams of various ages, the Calumet Copper Kings and even an alumni game including former Copper Kings from 1967 to 2009. The latter of which are pictured in the last photo here today.
Special thanks to Dorothy Jamison for these photos commemorating the centennial celebration of this important historic ice arena and community center.

What a wonderful thing for the Copper Kings to do. I love the Armory as it is filled with many, many good memories for me and my family. Great pics!

Talk about memories! I met a pretty girl at a Saturday dance at the Armory, 63 years ago. Evelyn Dunlop and I have been married for 60 years. I remember that evening like it was yesterday!
