Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 - 08:15 am:

We not only come to the end of the month today, but also the end of the year 2014. As is our long-standing custom here at the Pasty Cam, we pause from our usual daily routine to feature a beautiful sunset and reflect upon the names of those that have passed on before us. Today we remember:

Ed (EddyFitz) Chaput
Lillie Cole
Ken Kuntz
Claude Miron
Donald Spear
Sylvia Stephens
Servicemen and women who have given their all

Several of the above names have connections that I would like to mention.

First, Ed (EddyFitz) Chaput - He was a regular poster here on the Pasty Cam, with a vast knowledge of the freighters, having worked on the Edmund Fitzgerald as a young man. We will miss his contributions.

Second, Lillie Cole - She is my sister-in-law, Tricia's Mother and a beautiful southern lady she was.

Third, Ken Kuntz - He is my daughter-in-law, Brenda's Dad. One of the finest, kindest and welcoming man I have ever met and boy, oh boy, could he play the piano.

Fourth, Donald Spear - I worked with him in my early years, at Superior National Bank. Don always had a smile and a laugh to share with everyone.

I will personally miss these folks and the way they touched my life.

We here at Pasty Central we extend our deepest sympathy to all those who have lost a friend or loved one and we invite you to add their names to this page.

Special thanks to Joy Ziemnick for the beautiful photo to remember our loved ones with.

Sadly missed along life's way,
Quietly remembered every day…
No longer in our life to share,
But in our hearts, you're always there.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 - 02:41 pm:

No deaths in the this family the past month, although Nat did have a scare as her Mom was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of the month. Thankfully, she has already had her surgery, is back home, and getting stronger everyday. I also concur with the sentiments concerning Ed; he will surely be missed....

Also, I just received three 2015 Pasty calendars today (all great photos, btw) and I noticed on February a glaring mistake! The MTU All-Nighter is not on Friday the 6th, but Wednesday the 4th (the day Nat and I fly into Houghton). How could such a travesty occur????? ;-)

Thinking about my dad today. Six years ago this
month he passed away, and now I see listed here his
best friend, Block Miron. I didn't know he passed.
He was a great person, wonderful to my mom after my
dad passed. He helped so many people. The world
will miss him. My sympathies to his wife and
daughters.

In loving memory of Nancy Rajaniemi my mother, who
passed away on December 27, 2014. We were lucky to
have this one last Christmas with her before she
passed. My father passed away a little over a
year ago, so now they are together in eternal
rest. RIP ma and dad, you both are dearly missed.

Farewell, Eddie Fitz. Your knowledgeable e-mails to the kids in my
class brought geography and life on the Great Lakes alive for them.
