The Keweenaw Waterway is the 25 mile cut of water through the Keweenaw, that connects Keweenaw Bay on the east, to Lake Superior on the west, making it an island. Today's photos from Joy Ziemnick are from the McLain Park side on the west, a favorite place for Joy and Diesel to explore and check out the ice coverage.
In her first photo, it looks like Diesel is trying to figure out if he should try to make it over the icy terrain there or not. I'm guessing he either decided against it or found a way around it to explore some more.
All those layers of ice sure make for some picturesque scenes…I especially like the way Joy framed the lighthouse using the trees and branches. Chilly looking but spectacular at the same time. It is amazing to me, that those trees and branches can withstand the weight of that built up ice, without just snapping right off. I guess we grow trees with SISU here UP North, too, not just the people!
Joy's last photo is one of those beauties that we get to enjoy when the snow is coming down and covering everything in a blanket of white. It turns our world into black and white, so much so, that it's hard to tell if this is a color photo of our black and white world or if it truly is a black and white photo! What do you think?

Now there's a happy doggy....with a nice warm coat.;) The photos are beautiful, Joy, but I feel the need for a cup of hot tea!

Mother Nature has made some beautiful sculptures. It doesn't look like they are in any danger of melting any time soon.

Hi As shaggy as Diesel is, I'm surprised a man-made coat was needed.
The photos are beautiful, much nicer than the mud and dead grass we are seeing downstate.

Thanks, guys, and thank you, Mary. Diesel is 12 so we want to keep him from getting too chilled when we're outside for awhile (good windblock, too). Shirley, I love getting back indoors after my fingers are near numb and wrapping them around a a cup of hot tea or chocolate!

Joy, he is a nice looking dog. To help with the haircoat and the joints especially in the winter add omega 3 fatty acids to his diet. 1 gram of omega 3 would do it. It takes 3 months for maximal effect but does help. Beautiful pictures as always. Say hello to Jim when you see him and Happy New Year. Dr. Stew DVM

My skinny almost 14 yr old def needs a coat in the winter; with elderly canines, they certainly need extra assistance as do humans! Thanks for placing the nice coat on Diesel! And letting us check out the shoreline without getting our nose hairs frozen lol
