David Roberts took a ride around the Keweenaw recently, snapping pictures of some of the more recognizable landmarks and when I saw the Phoenix Church, a.k.a. Church of the Assumption, amongst his shots, I knew it would be perfect for wishing everyone a Very Merry Christmas! The rest of the pics are a bonus!

The Phoenix Church looks nice in white. I can just see people all dressed in their Christmas finery, heading in the doors for Christmas Mass back in the day. It's so nice to have the history of this place of worship preserved by the Keweenaw County Historical Society.

David's next historic building is the Laurium Manor Inn. This beautiful Bed and Breakfast Mansion was originally built in 1908 and since has been restored to welcome B & B guests to the opulent beauty of the early 1900's. I was lucky enough to take a mini-tour with some friends that were staying there this summer. It is absolutely gorgeous!

How many of you knew the third photo was Elmo's Tower before you read the heading? I've never had the opportunity to see the view from atop that tower on Cliff Drive. But I can imagine the view is spectacular. For more information about Elmo's Tower, click on the following links that tell more about Elmo and his tower: Nov. 15, 2000 and Nov. 3, 2003.

The last photo was taken from Houghton, looking over towards Hancock. To get your bearings on where-about in Hancock, the reddish building in the middle of the photo is the Kaleva Café on Quincy St., in the downtown district.

We hope you enjoyed your Christmas tour around the Keweenaw and that you're enjoying many blessings on this Christmas Day.

FOOTNOTE: Yesterday's shots from Chad Johnson really lit up the Pasty Cam for Christmas Eve. If you missed them, just click here: Wednesday, December 24th, to take a look at them!

this post is a bit unusual for me, speaking to
you from the top of Brockway mountain. Not all

of my punctuation will be correct, because I am

dictating this to my android phone. Down the
hill toward Eagle Harbor I can hear our gas
generator running as we have not had enough
sun or wind recently to keep the batteries
charged in the pasty.net relay that serves all
points west of Brockway mountain.

it has been a challenging year for our family.
Among those challenges is this real a that used
to be mounted on the top of the gift shop here.
As you may know, Eagle Harbor Township tore
down the gift shop in preparation to make a
visitors center. Since this was not
completed,we made our temporary access
point on the hillside more permanent.it has
been a very unusual winter or I should say fall
because there has been very little sunshine and
not much wind. When that happens, one of us
has to take a snow vehicle up to the top and
charge it by hand. Since all of the rest of the
staff are enjoying Christmas with their families,
I was elected. :-)

It's really neat to be up here when no one else
is around and have the view all to myself. Only
problem - the view consists of lights in the
distance. I can see eagle Harbor and a few
lights around Lake Madura. Medora. As you
can see, my phone doesn't translate all of my
words exactly right.

I suppose I better right back down the hillside
and make sure everything is charging okay. It's
a great night to be on the trails in the
Keweenaw. Except tonight - I'm the only one.

Thanks to all who contribute pictures and
conversation to the pastty cam. my apologies
for those times recently when we have not
gotten the daily picture posted until late in the
day. One of those things I hope to work on in
the new year :-)

Merry X-Mass to you and to everyone on Pasty!

I took my sisters to the Laurium Manor Inn a couple years ago. They were surprised that their brother could make such a good choice. They raved about the stay.
