Lake Superior doesn't care if it's snowing, blowing, sunny or dreary, she does what she wants to do with her waters and the day that Joe Kirkish snapped these shots at Esrey Park, Lady Superior had decided to makes some waves!
With the sun shining, it makes this wintry park scene look almost inviting, but then the white stuff on the ground brings you back to reality and how cold it must be with the wind blowing in the open expanse there. I wonder how many of you recognized where this photo was taken, before you read the captions or notes? I'm guessing that lone tree in the shot may have given it away as it is probably one of the more photographed trees in the Keweenaw. I know I have several shots of it, in various seasons. Esrey Park is one of my favorite places for a picnic in the summer months, but it definitely has some winter appeal, too.
Joe's last photo is one I have come to expect from him…I said the same thing last week, about how he so often sees the beauty of nature that we are in too much of a hurry to notice. Here he points out the unusual patterns the ice in this bay has made. With the clearness of the ice, the lines cutting through it almost look like they could be snowmobile tracks, but we all know that the ice isn't thick enough for that yet... or is it?

Little different conditions weather-wise, but the first photo reminds me of the 'Lone Cyprus' in the Pacific coastal town of Monterey, CA.

oops, misspelled that ~ should be Cypress as in trees, not Cyprus like the country.:-/
