I'm not sure why, but everything looks so different when you're looking down from higher up. Maybe because we get the full view of the area below, rather than just a building or two at a time as we pass by them on the ground. Whatever the reason, we're hovering over West Hancock today, with Nathan Miller and his aerial kite photography.

Today's photos were snapped from Nathan's kite, in the early evening, as the sun was making its descent for the day. In the first photo, he captured the old Portage Hospital, which now operates as The Jutila Center for Global Design and Business and houses a number of services and retail businesses.

In the next photo we're looking at Quincy Street/M203 and the Gloria Dei Luthern church, along with the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and a little further down the highway, the Houghton County Medical Facility.

The third picture again shows the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, then Bissonnette's Sew and Vac, which used to be Campioni's Market, back in the 60's. The next building going up Michigan St., is the Ryan Center, formerly the Ryan School.

Nathan's last look at West Hancock, shows us South Lincoln Drive and Ohio Street in the lower portion of the photo and more of West Hancock above these streets.

Interesting perspective the aerial kite photography brings to us, seeing the city from up above, without being so high that you can't pinpoint places you recognize. Nice work, Nathan. Those shots remind me of the little villages one puts around electric train sets under the Christmas tree.

Lavonne is a long time friend! I bought many of my miniature horses from her. Get with her you will laugh til your sides hurt. She has a picture of her and her granddaughter driving their ATV with the horse head on.
