In case you missed Saturday's Day in History, Dec 14th was the beginning of the two-day "Frostbitten Convention". I wish I had more time to recount some observations about the event, but if you want to see it in the words of those who lived it, check out this Google Book.
Our apologies for the delays lately in keeping up with the daily/weekly schedule. The final week of pasty shipments this year have all of us working overtime to make sure folks have a treat from the U.P. in time for Christmas.
I can hardly wait to taste some of that scrumptous Pastyness soon to arrive at my doorstep.
Oh. . . wait. . . You mean I actually had to order some? Just kidding. Keep up the hard work. I've actually ordered and enjoyed them in the past but will need to wait until after the holiday's aggravations have subsided in order to allow me to slow down enough to have the time to enjoy some of the simple pleasures such as eating a good pasty.
Speaking of Michigan statehood, I need to scour the family foot locker to find the certificates presented to my family in the state's bicentennial in 1997. They certified those in my family that had settled in the Grand Rapids area before statehood.

Thanks for all your efforts, Charlie! Adding a day gave many more people a treat this Christmas!
The map is perfect to explain to people how part of the UP was an original part of Michigan! Thanks again!

I wouldn't trade the U.P. for the ENTIRE state of Ohio. Or anything else I can think of for that matter.

Especially since the center of the known universe is there.

I would trade the eastern half for Wiamea Bay. We could have a saltwater beach than is warm

You'd get no argument from me, Dane, 'cause I'm not a 'native' Ohioan.;> Thanks for the history map/plaque of that decision, Charlie!

Neil, Ha Ha! Yes, that would be the best of two worlds.

Both the U.P. & the L.P. together form the most unique and wonderful state in the union.

Boy, was my math off. It was the sesquicentennial (150 years) in 1987. My mother's maternal great grandparents settled in Grand Rapids in 1832.

Now 'that' I might argue with, Allen ~ mainly because I don't like SNOW!;]
