Today, Melanie Hakala Rossi takes us along with her to the wintry shores of Lake Superior. She snapped these photos out at Big Traverse and they show you the difference a few months and freezing temperatures can make.

I love those first two sandy shots, showing the many layers of beach sand that have built up and then been washed partially away. They remind me of the snow banks in the spring, after the snowblower has cut them back. You can see the many layers of snow that have accumulated throughout the winter.

The remaining photos from Melanie are Mother Nature's artistry at work. When the waves are splashing ashore and the temperatures are frigid, ice quickly coats everything, often freezing as it runs off, which in turn forms many different icicle designs.

No matter the season, warm or cold, Lake Superior and her shoreline can always amaze you!

That first photo looks like chocolate cake with vanilla icing. Beautiful cold shots! Thank you, Melanie and Mary!

Indeedy, when I saw those, I was thinking of Jacobsville!
