Melanie Hakala Rossi made a visit, down on the farm in Lake Linden and captured some great photos of the critters that live there.
Now I'm not positive, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the animals in the first and third shots are mules, not donkeys. Although according to what I read, when they're wearing their winter coats, they closely resemble each other, so I'm just not sure.
The guy in the second photo, though, I'm positive is a bull, of the Hereford family I believe. He looks to be enjoying the hay provided and seems a bit oblivious to Melanie taking his photo to share on the World Wide Web. If only he knew how famous he would be today.
The last photo is one of my favorite, with the background of barren tree branches, making the beautiful color of this horse just pop right out of the picture. Put a frame around this one and it would be a great gift for any horse lover.
Thanks, Melanie, for taking us along on your visit to the farm, so we can see how the critters there spend their day!

Wonderful pictures! I never had mules/donkeys, but dad had Herefords, our Hereford bull's name was Walter. Warm and fuzzy with their winter coats ready for another U.P. winter!

I'll take all of 'em, thank you!! Such beautiful creatures. When I was a child we had a Jersey milkcow, "Bess" ~ oh how I loved her and cried bitter tears when my parents sold her. Love farm animals! Thank you for 'sharing' them, Melanie.

Janie, My grandson Kody is a senior at Cornell College. Do you live near that area of the state of Iowa? If so, how are the highways as far as driving conditions? Thanks.

Nick, I am about 20 miles north and a bit west from Cornell in Mt. Vernon Ia. Excellent College! Right now the highways/streets are dry and clear, normal driving. There is a talk about a system coming in tomorrow into Monday with about 2-4 in. of snow. Saying the fluffy type of snow. Doesn't sound too bad so far.

Jane, Thanks for the information. I am waiting for a response to my text message to Kody to find out if he is in Mt. Vernon or if he is at home with his parents in Buckeye AZ.

Lovely photos; but that last one, the horse with lighter hair around the eyes, does he have copper deficiency?
