Sorry, Charlie, it was too late for this old lady.;> But thank you for your devotion to your work! Love the architecture of the Hoist House.

Me too, Shirley. I waited as late as I could but I was beat and knew I had to go to work this morning. Thanks for your dedication, Charlie.
I have to hit the road because there's snow out there and, for some reason, people forget how to drive when there's snow on the road. You'd think they didn't grow up in the winter wonderland or something.

I highly recommend the Quincy Mine Tour. I've done it twice now and learned several new things the second time. I'm a gadget freak so I wish there was a more detailed in depth version.
Did you know that before the days of the hoist, miners climbed up and down the ladders on their own time? Their paid hours did not begin until they reached their work stations.
The Dry House whose remains are just west of Hwy 41, north of the old headquarters building was where miners would store their wet/sweaty coveralls by putting them on a rope and pulley, then raising them into the rafters area where it was warmer. Can you imagine the smell in there? I bet it would make the typical locker room today seem like a spring walk in the forest.

You should have taken the tour when I was a guide there, DA. You would have had your fill of history..... ;-)

I've spent the last 38 years designing passenger elevator control systems so the Quincy hoist provides tremendous intrigue for me. I would spend all day climbing all over it if I could.
BTW, do you know why my right margin is bigger than everyone else?

Naw, why? ;)
Sorry, D.A., I get silly when I'm tired.:>

D.A., I'm not into sports ~ except maybe the Tennessee Titans. Have to root for the home state!;>

Shirley,
I lived in east TN (Greeneville) for a time in the late 60's.

I think that's probably one town I've never been in, D.A. I'm from Nashville but we were living in Chattanooga in the '60s. Just a hop, skip and jump from Greeneville. I love East TN.
