Henry Sakari was on his way home from Munising and decided along the way to stop in at Presque Isle and see if any freighters were at the dock and sure enough, the Kaye E. Barker was pulled up to the dock, all lit up in the evening dusk.

The lights lit up like that give the ship a glow that almost seems "other worldly", like a ghost ship of sorts, with the light reflecting off the water, too. Or maybe I'm just imagining things. :->

If you're fascinated by these huge freighters that travel our beloved Lake Superior, then be sure to stay tuned for next week. We're going to have a couple more "boat nerd" days coming up.

FOOTNOTE: Yesterday's shots from Mike Schneider were really some beauties, plus there's a video of some Lake Superior wave-action you can click to see. If you missed them, just click here: Friday, Nov. 22, to take a look at them!

Thanks for the morning "fix". Even after 50 years as a landlubber I still enjoy the pictures that you post regularlly.

Impressive photo! Never got to see 'her' but did see 'her' sister ship, James R. Barker upbound at the Soo.

Thank You Shirley! He picked Michelle & I out when we went shopping for a colt at the breeders. Affectionately known as a pasture pal.

Okay, I give up, I found WeatherNation, but couldn't find anything from Sharon. Where was it hiding?

Why are the curtains drawn?

I wonder what life on "the boats" is like. Great pics!

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Sunday, November 24, 2013 - 12:02 am:

Alex and Jaby I often wonder what it's like on the barges as they travel the Mississippi river. Of course they are so much smaller but I like to imagine what it is like in the crews living area for one thing. If I believed in reincarnation I wonder if I may have worked on ships or ferries. Maybe in Irelands coastal waters. Who knows :>)
