Next week Edie and I have a downstate trip planned, which will take us once again over the Mighty Mac. No matter how many times we cross, it is always a profound experience, realizing what a feat of engineering joins these two peninsulas. We ran across this vintage mini-documentary from Lowell Thomas that takes us back half a century to reminisce.

Later today we should have the December pasty shipping schedule finally published, and wait until you see the cover of the 2014 Pasty Cam Calendar :-O

Love anything about the bridge, and I can't wait to get my calendar. But I might just wait to buy it when we visit the UP right after Christmas. It's the first time we'll be there at that time of year since 2008 when my dad passed away. I'm sure there'll be unpleasant memories, but it'll be nice to spend time with my mom at that time, too. Copper World always has the calendars and there's always a trip there.

Cedar Rapids, Ia. where I live and am from had a part of the Bic Mac's completion, some of the heavy equipment was made by Iowa Manufacturing.

Fascinating documentary and one that gave me a new appreciation for that bridge. I don't think I will ever cross it the same again.
Bought a new toaster oven just for the pasties...was microwaving before :-(

Loved that video. Reminds me of the little films we used to be shown in school, back in the day. I can't imagine doing that kind of work. I got dizzy just watching the video! LOL

Will be crossing next week 24th for my yearly hunting trip to Newberry
