If my calculations are correct, today is Pretty Bird’s eighth appearance on the Pasty Cam, since March of 2007. It’s always nice to catch up with him to see that he’s survived another year.

In case you don’t remember the story behind this Ruffed Grouse or you’re new to the Pasty Cam, here’s the low-down…

George and Paulette Beveridge have been feeding and visiting with their feathered friend all this time, near their Bootjack home. It is a wild bird, that just started coming around and eventually began trusting them enough to even be held and hand fed by George. It lives in the wild somewhere around their home and stops by for visits and treats all year round.

It’s not all that often that you can get close to a wild creature like this and to be able to continue the relationship for six years and counting is pretty amazing, indeed. Last time Pretty Bird appeared on these pages, I asked if anyone knew the life span of a Ruffed Gouse and the answers came back that the average span is 6 – 8 years, with the oldest age recorded being 11 years. Here’s hoping that Pretty Bird has the longevity to break that 11 year mark.

Nom, Nom, Nom! my wife does great things for the table with these very pretty birds. (Even as I type) she's out hunting them with a friend, showing her some of the sights unveiled by fallen leaves. Some of the views wih leaves out of the way are rather startling in their panoramas, too! I do enjoy seeing Pretty bird here for it's beauty - and thank George and Paulette for their patience and interest in the bird. It is a lovely creature.
