Judy Byykkonen takes us along on her recent walk in the woods, giving us a close-up glimpse of the fallen leaves and various weather that settled upon them.

The pine branch in Judy's first photo has caught not only leaves before they hit the ground, but also a few snowflakes that had fallen that day. The green backdrop of the needles really makes the other colors stand right out.

Along the forest floor, Judy spotted some type of fungi growing on a broken branch, surrounded by fresh fallen leaves, while a bold green moss covers the trunk of the tree nearby. So many colors to behold.

The last few photos are a wonderful study of fallen leaves…can you name the trees they came from?

It's not as easy to find the beauty once the leaves have come down, since everything turns drab and gray, but if you do like Judy did and look all around you, there are many things that will catch your eye.

Mary, I'm not an arborist so I'm 'guessing' most of those leaves are oak.

Nice photos. Thank you Judy! Our fall colors here in West Michigan have really held up. There are still lots of trees that are completely green, along with lots and lots of yellow. The oaks are magnificent this year.

I can almost smell the pines and leaves. I will have to get one of those pine air fresheners and hang it on my monitor for moments like these.

Can you see the fish swimming in the third pic-under the lower right oak leaf?

Yes! I do see that fish! Looks like a trout. Very cool! Love all
the photos this morning. Beautiful! I think I see a little maple
leaf amongst the various oak leaves too. Thanks for sharing
these lovely photos.

Oh my goodness! Look at the fifth picture for even more trout! Possibly as many as five in that photo -- under the leaf, below and to the left of the leaf, possibly lower right corner, and almost certainly upper right corner of the photo. What a shot!

Hi Shirley,

Look along the bottom left of the picture; see the
spots along the body of the fish? Focus on that
pattern. Just above that fish is another ~ you
can see the spots most clearly along the left edge
of the picture. Above that one, is another,
partially under the leaf. Along the very top
right edge is another, with the spots less
visible.

There are others, but those are the easiest to
pick out when you get used to the pattern. Happy
hunting!

You might be right, Jbuck. The monitor on this computer is not as 'crisp' as the one on my older computer. So maybe I should go into the other room and check for the fish in there.;>

Yes, I can see them (4) more clearly on this monitor.
