On one of the windy, cool fall days recently, Taana Kalliainen looked out her South Entry window and spotted two windsurfers taking advantage of the wind and waves. You can see how windy it was by the waves washing right over the concrete pier leading out to the lighthouse there.
Takes a special kind of person to get out there in the weather like that, when the air is cold and the water is most likely colder. Although I will admit that it must be a great feeling to be sailing along with the power of the wind pushing you on your way.

What a rush! Thanks Taana! These folks are using the breakwater for some serious high-speed runs. The water is flat in the lee of the breakwater, but the structure isn't very high, so the wind comes over it cleanly. You can get going super fast in a setup like that. Just don't make the mistake of pulling the clew through the eye of the wind.

Could the explanation be that Taana looks at the South Entry light through the North Entry window on her house?

It appears Taana is taking these photos of the South Entry Lighthouse from the Fisherman Village (Chassell) side. If so, the colorful mainland background must be the Abbaye Peninsula in Baraga County. The photos make the peninsula appear to be close to the lighthouse, but in reality, it's quite far. Interesting.

I totally agree with JohnS, as I thought these photos must surely have been photo shopped. I took very similar photos when my daughter & I kayaked around the lighthouse this August, and I know that peninsula is much farther away (I grew up in Jacobsville, and now live in Portage Entry), and the land usually appears blue, and far enough away to not be able to distinguish the Fall colors. That being said, the photos are very nice just the same.

I took these from the south facing window that has a nice view of the lighthouse. I was inside and used my 300mm lens as I was not going outside on this particular day! :D

Wherever you took the pictures from Taana, they're great!! Thanks for sharing them.
Phyllis, are you related to Mary Ella Bergh? She was a classmate of mine and one of the nicest people you could ever know. I know she was from the Jacobsville area.

Deb S, yes, Mary Ella was my sister and I miss her very much! Taana, thank you for the explanation & forgive me for thinking you photoshopped the pics. That must be one huge lens!
