Bill Haller took a ride to Baraga County and headed due east of L'Anse, to get to the highest natural point in Michigan, Mt. Arvon (1979 feet - 603 m). His purpose was to go and check out the colors and I for one am certainly glad he decided to share them with us all.

You can drive within a half mile from the lookout, then take the trail (shown in the first photo) that leads up to the top. That is just what Bill did and look what he found…quite the colorful vista. Bill noted that the colors at this higher elevation, are somewhat further along than the lower areas. It is literally bursting with color UP there for sure!

Gorgeous autumn color pictures, Bill. Thanks, Bill and Mary. I especially like the last two, but they are all beautiful. Thank you!

My very favorite pictures on this site are the Fall color pictures. Just amazing. So miss seeing color in the fall. They don't call Washington the Evergreen state for nothing. Lots and lots of green here (nice in mid winter) but not a whole lot of color. Thanks for providing the nice glimpses of what we miss in da UP, eh?

Yesterday's photos were posted later, so I wanted to be sure you all have a chance to check them out, since they were the follow-up photos on the Porcupine Mountain/Lake of the Clouds color photos.

I've never checked that spot out yet either, Uncle Chuck. When I do,
I'll try to head there when the leaves are changing color.

By Waveaction (Lakelover) on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 - 04:37 pm:

Beautiful pictures.

The fall is a special season for the UP. You can smell the fragrance in the air. You can see the trees slowly going to sleep and you can hear the big lake roar.

Written by: Emily Bronte

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.

I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night's decay
Ushers in a drearier day.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 - 05:03 pm:

That's beautifully descriptive, Waveaction.
The Bronte sisters are among my favorite authors!
