The U.P. was treated to a spectacular display of Northern Lights this week and we have several photographers that captured the show.
First in the lineup is a series of six photos snapped by Bob Gilreath, while standing on the deck of his Hubbell home. One of the advantages of living in a small town without many streetlights, you can see displays like this in the sky without having to leave your yard. I like the way Bob's photos give you an idea of the changing of the lights as they danced through the night sky.
The seventh photo in the lineup, comes from Shawn Malone, over at Lake Superior Photo in Marquette. It looks like the Marquette area had a bit more color shimmering across the sky, than what the Aurora Borealis was doing in the Keweenaw. Spectacular to say the least.
And lastly, for those of us that don't seem to be able to stay up late enough to catch the show, we have a video that is the next best thing to having been there, gazing up at the display in person. Mark Riutta, over at DefinedVisuals.com shares his handiwork at capturing the lights as they hop, skip and jump across the darkened sky in Hancock.
Special thanks to today's photographers, for giving up some of their sleeping hours, so we don't have to. :->

Joanne, that group of stars is the Pleiades in the constellation Taurus. They shine high in the evening sky around Christmas.
