"GOOD AFTERNOON", many years ago one of my uncles
took my brother and I to a place in the U.P. called
the singing sand. Can any-one ever recall such a
place ?

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Thursday, September 26, 2013 - 01:36 pm:

Dean I don't know anything about singing sand in the UP. But years ago I read or heard of singing sand somewhere around Ashland, Bayfield or Herbster Wisconsin. Could have been from a Wisconsin PBS program from the DNR. Thank goodness for all PBS !!!! It must be special to hear that sound. Good luck finding information and let us know hey?

Dean, I Googled it, and it mentioned singing sand in Beta Gris. Could that possibly be where you are referring to?

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Thursday, September 26, 2013 - 11:21 pm:

Hei Dean,
I've heard the singing sand at Bete Gris and the beach east of Marquette. That was many years ago. It's pretty neat! When you swish your hand through the sand or kick it gently with your foot, it makes a musical note or sound. I've heard it said that it only happens with the Lake Superior sands.
