Second Post

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 - 06:16 am:

Good Morning you all. Twelve years ago today were the horrific attacks on the U.S. of 9/11. We do need to make sure that those who were to young, not born yet, or otherwise do not remember what happened that day, are shown what happened. A moment of silence for those who died or were maimed that day, the first responders including the search dogs, and those who lost someone(s) that awful day. I will never forget watching the first plane hit the tower on TV, and then the second plane hit the second tower on live TV, followed not long after by the two towers' falling. We need to keep our homeland safe for all! Take care.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 - 07:53 am:

Amen Marianne!

Let's always remember all those who perished that day. And all the heroes. The ones who took down the plane in PA, the ones who helped others get out of the towers or at the Pentagon, the ones who comforted others as they awaited word of a friend or loved one. There are so many heroes we will never know.

God bless America!

WOW! What great pictures today! Brita's swing picture just melts your heart and makes you remember days gone by.

Let's never forget the people whose lives were forever changed, one way or another on that awful day 12 years ago.

Have a nice day!

9/11, still remember that deadly day like it was yesterday. I still remember clearly what I was doing when the news was first issued. God Bless America indeed!

Nice photos one and all!!

Charlie/Mary: Where can I find a little more information concerning the 1999 photo of the "artesian well pipe"? I believe that is actually the drain pipe for the Hill Fissure adit located near Copper Falls...

Mary says: This is all I could find on it, Capt. Paul, since it is in the early days of the Pasty Cam:
Archives: Sept. 5 - 11, 1999
It's mentioned here, also: Sept. 11, 1999 On this link you have to scroll down to about the middle of the page or use the "find" feature (ctrl F) and search for Bill Penprase California. It will be the second one found. He mentions the pipe being "...fed by a real good spring....until the State made the County disconnect it because it was not properly chlorinated for public drinking."
Hope this helps!

Good morning, all. Remembering so many heroes today.

There also was an artesian well pipe near Rock City Creek Behind Bumbletown.

9/11, what a terrible day ~ yes, let's never forget what can happen to our country. May God Bless and keep US safe!

By Sldmi (Sldmi) on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 - 10:52 am:

I had a chance to visit the United Flight 93 Memorial in PA over the summer. It was very moving and I would recommend it to anyone who's on their way to Gettysburg. Remembering all the heroes today!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 - 11:08 am:

That helps; thanks Mary!!

I remember the artesian well/pipe that was shutoff, but that one is almost next to the observation tower along the Copper Falls Road in the park. The one pictured I'm sure is right next to the road just before that park, which is the sealed off adit to the Hill Fissure. Will have to check on this later today.

Thank you for posting that, Thomas ~ very touching!
Since 9/11 I've always regretted that my husband and I didn't visit the World Trade Center Towers when we were living in Paramus, NJ in 1981. We went to the top of the Empire State Bldg. and my husband wanted to go to the top of the Towers but I was fearful of their height. Did get some good photos though.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 - 06:27 pm:

Thank you, Thomas. The last time I saw the Trade Center Towers
was at the end of August in 2001. I was there to pick up my
daughter who had been dancing and taking a course in Manhattan.
My daughter visited the Towers and bought souvenirs from the gift
shop for each member of the family just before she left. I wear the
socks (with the towers on them) every September 11th.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 - 08:04 pm:

Thank you Thomas.... very moving.

Not sure how many people have ever heard it, but
there is a recording of a Verizon operator talking
to a man who is on a floor above where one of the
planes hit. She calmly talked with him as he said
it was getting very hot and there wasn't much air
and he didn't think he was going to make it. She
continued to calm him and comfort him and stayed on
the line until he was gone. She was a hero, like so
many others.

Looks like 75 years ago the Library Bar was called
"Board of Trade".

Remembering those that perished 12 years ago and 1
year ago today.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 - 09:50 pm:

You're right, D.A., we must never forget those from a year ago today either. So sad.
