Young and old and in-between bring today's Shoebox Memory from Cornwall, the place where U.P. Style pasties trace their ancestry. While preparing an original video series we'll be bringing throughout the fall ("Friends in High Places") I ran across this mini-documentary that I thought you might find interesting. Most of our photos and features bring "A glimpse of life in the U.P.", but now and then we just do something purely pasty. Click the top photo above and enjoy!

Have a good week :o)

Would you believe that the first time we tried Pasties, we didn't like 'em. They were purchased at a Deli about 24 years ago. (won't say where in Michigan) But gave them another try 8 years later in Mackinaw City and loved 'em!

Now that's what I call a 'Proper Job' in making a pasty.

Just 4 weeks to go and I'll be in the Keweenaw for the first time in 3 years, can't wait to see so many of my friends in Eagle River, Copper and Agate Harbor and Calumet.

With my very best wishes to 'One and All' from a very wet and windy Cornwall.

I think the best pasties can be found north of the bridge...Houghton lift bridge that is.

Thanks, Charlie. Loved that video.

It's unfortunate that some commercially produced pasties are not good, in fact some are terrible. If someone who has not had pasty before happens to try one of the not good or terrible ones it turns them against pasty forever. I once stopped to pick up a pasty somewhere along US2 west of the Mackinaw Bridge and it was so bad I ended up throwing it away and I'm a huge fan of pasties. Had that been the first time I had a pasty I probably would never have had another one.

Graham Baker, I tried to send you an E-mail but
apparently the address you have listed is not
correct. Too bad. By the way I love pasties also and
make them occasionally. I'll be up to the U.P. this
coming Saturday on Lake Gogebic. Looking forward to
it

I believe them man with the longish hair and funny looking shirt in
the last picture is in fact James May of Top Gear. I have had pasties
in the UP and Cornwall and they are both excellent. The Cornwall
ones seem to have a flakier crust like a pie. Greetings from wet
(very) Salem Oregon

My wife and I have had pasties in Edinburough, Scotland. We noted that they were smaller than what we buy in the Copper Country. But as good.

Mike - I'm not sure if that's Captain Slow or not... amusing if it is!
