Taana Kalliainen joined a group of her "horse friends" on a trail ride this past weekend. She said it's an annual event, that the Copper Country Trail Riders, a group that's been in existence for about 30 years, organize as a fund raiser each September.

This past weekend, they started out from a field in the Mason area and rode to the Hungarian Falls and back, which ended up being about 4 - 5 hours of riding. Taana said they didn't linger long at the falls, because they had run into a yellow jacket nest, so they quickly got themselves and the horses away from there.

Once they all made it back at the camp, the cooks got the charcoal hot and ready for cooking the burgers and t-bone steaks. It's a pot luck gathering, so there's always plenty of food to go around. They also have a ticket drawing for donated prizes, so it's an all around fun time for group and a good way to connect with other horse loving friends.

A trail ride like this, seems like such a peaceful and relaxing (except for the yellow jacket encounter) way to check out the back roads and woods around the Keweenaw.

Good size group out for a day that I would call my kind of day!

It was an awesome day for a ride!! All the fresh air and a long
ride got the appetite set for the huge T-bone steak dinner
afterwords!
