Sure signs that summer is coming to an end and fall is nearly here are the cooler evenings and the earlier setting of the sun. Judy Byykkonen was out for what she called her 'Friday the 13th walk', but it looks like she had luck on her side, as she snapped today's shots, showing some of the other signs that fall is quickly going to be upon us.

She found some apple trees that were covered with apples and they're looking just right for picking too, both red and green ones. Now don't go asking me what variety they are, because I just don't know. All I know is that they look crunchy and good. Is it true that when the apples are abundant like in Judy's first photo, that it means we're in for a rough winter? I've heard that said a few times this past week.

Judy also found the beginnings of the color change taking place, with a few of the Maple leaves showing off some red amongst the green. I know the colors are coming, but I don't know that I'm quite ready for it to happen just yet.

The last photo is an interesting mushroom specimen indeed, with that flat top. I bet the insects that live on the ground like this type of fungi, as it can act as protection for them from the rain and sunshine. Sort of like an umbrella of sorts.

My calendar says that Autumn begins on the 22nd, but it sure looks like Judy found it beginning a little early this year.

Those look good enough to eat..... at least the apples anyway.

Great shots, Judy! Love the apples; while growing up I had a good friend whose family owned an orchard. Lots of great memories of more free apples than I could possibly eat, plus all the fun of helping out with picking apples, making cider, etc.

I agree with you, Capt. Apples look great, but I'll be staying away from the leaves and the mushrooms.

I can get these pictures, though. Great fall pictures!

Before a storm took down our apple tree we enjoyed those apples so much!:9 But after they'd fall to the ground we had to fight swarms of bees for them.
