When Mike Schneider and family took a ride out to the Big Bay Lighthouse, they met up with the little fellow in the first photo. He even had a name, according to Mike…he called him 'Chip' and commented about the bravery he displayed, sitting right there on the fence like he did, not afraid, just posing for the humans. Or perhaps he was mesmerized by the beautiful wildflowers you can see surrounding him. Guess we'll never know for sure.
One thing I do know, though, is that even when the day is misty and a fog shrouds the scene, the Big Bay Lighthouse and grounds still look spectacular. It's well worth the drive outside of Marquette, to get there. It's also a Bed and Breakfast, so you might want to make plans to spend the night!

Yack! I've been 'fighting' chipmunks for years ~ they're cute but very destructive.:< Beautiful view of the lighthouse, Mike!

I have a a big air compressor in my yard, and our resident chipmunk has snacked on the wiring and air control lines more than once. Now I'm replacing plastic lines with copper tubing and am installing a metal junction box to protect the wiring. Still, I can't come up with any hostility toward the little striped rascals. They're just too bright and full of life. That ebullient chipping noise, that carries so finely on a dewey morning, is a sign that all is well in the world.
Very nice photos this morning. Thank you, Mike!

Well said Dunerat. There are sights and sounds that do make one feel comfortable. We just have to look and listen............

Yes, I've 'looked' at chipmunks ~ undermining part of my old asphalt driveway and destroying birdfeeders.

I think "chippers" are so cute! They don't give us problems, it's the squirrels that are the destructive renegades!!

I like squirrels.;> They stay above ground.

Chipmunks have to be above ground to be able to destroy your birdfeeders.....

I didn't mean that chipmunks stay underground all the time ~ just when they're tunnelling under driveways/foundations.
