When Deb and Ron Simons were here in the Keweenaw, they did one of Deb's favorite things, took a drive north, to Copper Harbor. They took their time along the way and made a few stops for some special views of Lake Superior, including a freighter off in the distance in the first shot.
With today's photos, you can see some of the many faces Lake Superior's shoreline takes on, with some being beautiful sandy beaches, some rocky shorelines and grassy ones, too.
In case you didn't recognize the location of the third photo, that's Esrey Park. The photo was snapped while standing up on the rock wall, looking back at the picnic area of the park. It's nice to see this side of the park there, since most times folks are just snapping shots of the Big Lake from that beautiful vantage point.
The views along the way are always spectacular on this journey and the ride up there, is at the top for beauty, too. Deb shows us the evidence to prove that, in the last photo, snapped while Ron was doing the navigating along M26 on their way back.
Copper Country scenery at its best.

Thanks, Mary! That freighter followed us all the way from Copper Harbor. We got some nice close-ups of it along the way, but I think this was my favorite one, even thought it looked so far.
In the 2nd shot-*, we were trying to capture 5 mile point, since it's visible from as far as the eye can see from that vantage point. Wonderful view!
At Esrey, we snapped so many pictures of nature. A lot of the lake of course, but then there were flowers, sugar plums, blueberries, different rocks, etc. Then the one you posted here. I found it interesting because I don't ever remember seeing one taken from there.
And yes, I was trying to capture the difference in the shorelines. Amazing lake. And an amazing ride home, even though the windshield has some bird droppings on it, we still snapped several like that.
It was a great day! I should try to get the rest into my gallery. Haven't done that in a while. There were just so many that we took. It's hard to pick a few good ones, but as usual, Mary did a great job!!
Thanks, Mary. It's always the favorite part of my time UP there. I never tire of it. Though this time, we did snap many pictures that we wouldn't usually because you've brought out my imagination thanks to this site!! I tried to not just take the obvious shots. So thank you, Mary!!

I like Esrey Park, I even recall having a large family gathering picnic back in the 50's there.

When we're staying in the Keweenaw, we drive up and down the peninsula every day. We debate which drive we like better--up the coast on 26 or through the trees on 41. We LOVE every part of the Keweenaw. Can't wait to get back to the UP in two weeks!!

Thank you, Deb, Mr Deb, and Mary for the beautiful photos. You had a gorgeous day for photos that day, Deb! (We have made several trips up from 5-Mile Point, up 26 to Copper Harbor, one of my favorite drives, but in pouring down rain, which were not nearly as much fun.) I love Esrey Park and the waterfalls along the route. The ride home photo should be gorgeous this fall.
My son and 4 of his MTU friends camped near Superior's shores in Gratiot River County Park on Sunday night. They got really cold because of the wind. He said there were 6 to 8-foot waves all night long. I think they will have tents next time, to go along with sleeping bags, etc. It was beautiful scenery and fun, just cold and windy. :-)

Viewing these pictures are almost as good as if I was a stow-away in Deb & Ron's car! I could have been their back seat driver!

Oh my...I'm getting excited already for my days up there! I'm happy also for the painting workshop up by Lac Du Flambeau before I get to the Keweenaw. Finish the workshop Sat. the 5th and go north from there. YEE HAW! Last year this time I was all set to go when I fell and injured my arm. Couldn" drive for 5 months!!! A woman without wheels is an awful thing. Yesterday I signed up to do my "Grandma K" volunteer with the kindergardeners! Any body going to be there at the same time so we could coffee together?

Is it just me, or is the green foliage much lusher and a deeper green than some other years? It is just gorgeous, in all of the photos with trees and bushes. Thank you!
