That appears to be a male Pileated Woodpecker, FJL.

Paul and I are back in Houston, after a fantastic visit to the Keweenaw. I had a great time fishing, although Paul caught all the fish. Hiking, especially in Estivant Pines was wonderful. And there's nothing like refreshing morning swims in Lake Superior. I even loved cool, drizzly days a couple of weeks ago because they reminded me of Norway. Thanks to everyone who made going home for a few weeks so very nice!

Now it's back to work for me. I have to be back on campus Monday and I have some revisions to do for my new book if I'm going to get it done by the planned release date. There's always something to keep me busy.

is it just my computer or does the picture of the woodpecker seem to over-lap a picture with sand and water?
