Time for our weekly Upper Michigan Shoebox Memory! Barb Wenberg has a neat collection of old postcards that includes this 1905 correspondence from Marquette, "May all your troubles be little ones". The little ones on this card would be almost 110 years old - if any were still around. Among the new model year of U.P. babies for 2013 is our own granddaughter, whose arrival was announced on March 1 Pasty Cam. That's her maternal Grandmother, Patty Wills, holding Ellie just last week at her baptism at Eastwood Lutheran in Neguanee. Jonathan and Katriina, Ellie and Grandma and Grandpa Wills in a group shot (cousin Andy Kandoll officiated at the service):

Ellie and family
It's nice having Jon and Katriina back in the U.P., where Katriina just joined the staff at Portage Health in Hancock, and Jonathan continues his role as System Administrator for Pasty.NET (only a lot more "hands-on" than he was in Connecticut). BTW, if you're new to the Pasty Cam, Jon was the original photographer for the first couple of years of this daily feature that started in 1998.

Hard to believe that school will be starting in the next couple of weeks! Michigan Tech students have already started streaming to the Copper Country, and we've begun saying goodbye to a number of our seasonal residents, until next Spring. We've had our share of challenges this season (and yes, Edie's doing much better, glad to be home.) In the big picture of things, our troubles have all been little ones. Only Summer has been way too short this year.

Have a good week :o)

p.s... Congratulations to Jon and Katriina, who celebrated another Anniversary yesterday. You may recall the windy day of their wedding on the Pasty Cam back in 2002:

Good pictures. I like the way the postmark was back then, looking like Old Glory. I wish the U.S.P.S. would revive it.

Congratulations, Jon and Katriina!
Your little Ellie is adorable!:)
Thanks, Charlie, for the update on Edie ~ so happy to hear she's doing good. May God continue to bless your whole family!

The postcard could be saying that storks do deliver babies. ;) Congratulations to The Jon Hopper Family!!

I wonder if there are any iguanas in "Neguanee"?
(Ahh yes, the devil made me do it!)

Although Charlie gets a free pass for one spelling error, given all the long hours he spends keeping Pasty.NET up and running, while also maintaining an unbroken record of 15+ years bringing us this 'daily glimpse of life from the U.P.'! Thanks, Charlie!

FRN: You're right. They sell gauze in the drugstore in Negaunee, but the iguanas come from Guatemala.

That was a windy day way back in 2002! Good times and good pics! Glad all is well and some of the family has come back to the nest...or at least closer to it. :)

Janie, as you, Katriina and I ~ and all who've had babies can attest to ~ storks played no part in it.;>
