This whirlwind summer is almost half over... a most unusual one for our family, with Grandma spending much of it in the hospital.
When we started the Pasty Cam back in the 90's, there were two school-age kids in our household. Now, both have kids of their own. It has been pleasant to take time out to explore some unique spots in the U.P. that we came to love as kids ourselves.
In the top scene, our granddaughters Kit and Kira sit by the subject of last year's Pasty Cam on this day, the Eagle River Courthouse. Then we wandered over to Gitche Gumee, where Kit appears to be singing Kum-by-yah (actually they were saying "Hi Mom!"). Earlier today there was a Memorial service at the Tabernacle there, honoring the life of longtime director Charles Hart, and some of you may have heard the live stream over on Pasty.NET. Finally in the last picture Kira says goodbye to Uncle Shadow. I guess he'd be considered uncle, because Kira calls me Grampa and Shadow calls me Daddy.
It was a shortened visit with Becky and the girls because we spent most of their time in the U.P. downstate (see Petoskey 7/21. They tried to get an extension of their visit from the airline, but were told basically they would have to buy tickets all over again. So we do what we have to do, and hope for a longer visit next time.
There's another granddaughter, Ellie, we'll get to see more often, now that Jonathan and Dr. Katriina have returned to the Copper Country. They now call Houghton home, as Katriina has joined the staff at Portage in Hancock. Edie and I send thanks to that staff, who cared for her part of the month of July.
Have a good week :o) ...and to all a good night.
