Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 06:16 am:

Good morning. I just wanted to mention a little more about the unpredictable schedule for daily Pasty Cam updates this month. During the 15+ years of this journey there have been some unusually busy times, especially in the summer maintaining our U.P. broadband network. But my wife Edie and I have enjoyed excellent health all of these years, with very little time sidetracked by medical issues... until this month.

To make a long story short, my wife's long-term diabetes (49+ years) has required some attention lately, in and out of hospitals several times this month. She is quite healthy for having coped with this for half a century, but circulation weakness in one leg required the placement of a stent, and treatment for an infection. I have spent some nights this month with her in the hospital, which makes the morning update a bit of a challenge. To complicate matters, last night the cot on which I was sleeping slid a little too close to the wall - under a low shelf - and when I quickly raised up during the night, we added a minor concussion to our list of medical concerns :o)

Unusually frequent power drops in the Keweenaw - as well as some awesome lightning shows - have kept us jumping, as we deliver broadband service on a network being radically upgraded this summer. It's kind of like trying to re-blacktop a highway without stopping the traffic. Thanks to all the Pasty.NET members in the Keweenaw for their patience as we work through these challenges.

Thanks for your prayers and well-wishes. We appreciate all the friendly folks who frequent the Pasty Cam, and may wonder, "Where's today's glimpse of life in the U.P.?" Some have been a little late in the day this month, but, thankfully so far, not missed. And by the way, Edie is doing well this morning, well on the road to recovery.

By my calculations today is day # 5,620 without missing one. How's your head feeling?

I was afraid there was more to the story. Edie is
in our prayers for complete healing. May our Lord
bless you both.

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 07:02 am:

Thanks again. My head is OK, just a bit of a bump on the left side, that wasn't there before.

By the way, what most people probably don't know, Edie is part of the regular team on the Pasty Cam. Mary does the lion's share of the work in gathering and editing the images and original comments each day, I tie it all together for the update, and Edie normally does the final pass of proof-reading, so we may have missed some typos this month. Also, Edie has done most of the research for our "Pasty Central Day in History" feature, like today's Wrongway Corrigan vignette.

This week in my town of Union City, Indiana an 8
year old boy died after being hit in the neck with a
baseball at little league practice. His dad was the
coach. Such a sad and tragic accident. This happened
on Tuesday and he was taken off life support
Wednesday evening and he was an organ donor.

Please say a prayer for Dylan's family and his team
mates. Hug your kids and tell them you love them
everyday.

WOW!! I sure hope that Edie is going to start feeling better and that your headache doesn't last too long, Charlie. You can't know how grateful we all are for you, Edie, Mary and the rest of the pasty crew.

I've been having problems getting on as of late, which hasn't made my mood very good in the morning, lol. Not getting my fix all the time. But that problem is nothing compared to yours.

Lots of great pictures today. Joyce's cat always brings a smile to my face :-) And I love the Isle Royale pictures. Hard to mention them all! Wonderful slideshow today. It's greatly appreciated after missing a few this month.

Have a great day!

Charlie and Edie, so sorry to hear what you two have been facing...my husband was diabetic, so I know how crucial and important care is. You're in my prayers.
Charlie, reading about your 'incident' literally made my head hurt. May God bless you both with a much better and brighter day! Hope you both know how much you mean to us 'visitors' to your site.:)

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 09:08 am:

Here's a prayer for you, Edie and Charlie. Hope Edie's condition improves and all the technical issues with the network can be managed. We're all pulling for you!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 09:23 am:

Edie & Charlie, sending you my well wishes. Hoping for healthy days ahead for you both. Take care!

By Diana P. (Diana) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 09:58 am:

Oh my, bless your hearts, Edie and Charlie! Edie, you are in my prayers for a complete recovery. Hope that you are able to leave the hospital soon. Charlie, you are a gem, for taking such good care of Edie.

And thank you, Charlie, for "fessing up" to the wonderful behind the scenes work that Edie does as part of the Pasty Cam team! You are all amazing!! God bless you both, and keep you safe in His care.

I think perhaps the choice of beautiful pink flowers on the Cam Notes page today was with Edie in mind. Maybe pink is Edie's favorite flower color? :-)

By Dr. Nat (Drnat) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 02:32 pm:

My best wishes to Charlie and Edie. I am glad to hear things are improving.

By Waveaction (Lakelover) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 03:37 pm:

Rest up and get well Charlie and Edie.

Cindy Barga (Hoosiergirl), so sorry to hear about Dylan, to die at such a young age breaks my heart. Sending prayers to his family and his team mates. Going to call my kids and tell them that I love them, wish I could hug them. :(

By Cindy Barga (Hoosiergirl) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 03:51 pm:

Thanks Wave action, this is such a tragic story and
our small town is in shock. His all star little
league team is scheduled to play in a tournament
tomorrow and they haven't decided whether to play or
not. I wish I could hug my son too, I tell him I
love him every time we talk.

By Cindy Barga (Hoosiergirl) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 03:55 pm:

I would also like to say to Charlie and Edie that I
hope you both get well soon. I enjoy coming to this
site to look at the amazing pictures. I appreciate
all the hard work you all do to make this site
possible.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 04:44 pm:

Best Wishes to both Edie and Charlie for a speedy and full recovery.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 07:20 pm:

Cindy, so very sad about the little hometown boy. I read about that on the internet. My heart weeps for the family and the town! May God comfort them all.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 08:36 pm:

God allows for strange things to happen. And all we can do is accept what happens in our lives and allows us to praise the Lord. As an update to the little fellow Nathan from nearby Sterling Illinois, he is the one who was buried under 11 feet of a sand dune along Lake Michigan recently. I understand he was allowed off the ventilator today and is breathing somewhat on his own. They been withdrawimg sand from his lungs and he's even watching t.v. And may go home next week!

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Friday, July 19, 2013 - 08:40 pm:

We are all with you and Edie in spirit if not in person. Wishing you both good health and you know the Lord's loving arms are supporting you all the way.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Saturday, July 20, 2013 - 12:00 am:

Thank you, Charlie, Edie, Mary and the others for 'gittin' us home every day! May God continue to bless you.
