When Lindsay White and family, get together at Kauppi's Campground just past Gay, there is always plenty going on...some planned, some unplanned, like the rainbow that appeared over Lake Superior and the dock area while they were there recently. Scenes like this are why Lindsay and crew keep returning to this spot to get away for the weekend.

Another reason they enjoy this area for camping, is the Tobacco River. Lindsay and her cousin Devin put their kayaks in the river, just before Gay and paddled their way down-river, while Lindsay's sister, Nichole Sprinkle waited with the camera on the bridge that the river runs under before it heads into Lake Superior. Nichole started snapping photos of them, when they came into sight and continued as they navigated the small falls before the river heads underneath the bridge.
Lindsay ended up sideways on her turn going over the shallow falls, because she was trying to watch her cousin Devin get over this spot, as it was Devin's first attempt kayaking down the Tobacco. No problem with the sideways descent though, Lindsay made it down just fine. Then it was Devin's turn and she came straight down the falls, looking like a pro in the last shot. Actually, Devin's kayak was stuck on the rocks in that last photo, so she posed like kayakers that shoot the rapids do, as they come over the rough spots.

What a grand time and a thrill to pit their kayaking skills against the rushing waters of the Tobacco River, where it's relatively shallow and the danger level is quite low. Good clean fun!

I've always wanted to go kayaking. That's one thing I've not been able to do. With my luck I'm probably safer on the shore taking the picture :-)

I have also wondered about kayaking. This looks like a good place to practice your "whitewater" skills.
