Deb and Ron Simons made a visit to a park that I've never been to and I'm putting it on my to-do list for completion yet this year. They traveled out on the Houghton Canal Road, to get to Stanton Township and the North Canal Park. The first sign says that the park was funded by Michigan Natural Resources/DNR and the second one has a photo of students that attend the E.B. Holman School, because they've adopted this beach and help to keep it clean. What a great way to teach these young people about giving to your community.

It sure looks like a wonderful place to go for a picnic and of course the view of the Keweenaw Waterway Upper Harbor Entrance and light is spectacular, too. It always amazes me how the water of Lake Superior can look so different on each side of the breaker walls, as shown in today's fifth photo. Inside the breaker walls it's calm and smooth, but on the left side of the rock wall, the waters are choppy looking. Neat contrast.

So, if you're like me and haven't ventured out this way, better make this one of your destinations this summer and check it out for yourself. Make sure you pack a picnic lunch!

That looks like Ron on the rocks.

Great photos! There's an interesting optical effect in "Ron on the Rocks". Looks like the calm water inside the breakwall is at a higher level than in the big lake to the immediate left.

Deb & Ron, beautiful pictures!! And who can't love Ron on the Rocks! Was this the trip you made UP with the kittens and we met for lunch in Iron River?

Nice pix! I have been to the end of the Houghton Canal Road, but I did not know that this park was there. Will have to check it out.
Wasn't Ron on the wagon a couple of weeks ago? :-)

Yes, Dunerat, I noticed that optical illusion even
before I clicked on the small photo. I keep going
back and looking at the large photo, and it's just
amazing.

I didn't notice that our pictures were on here because pasty came up so late yesterday and I went to bed before the pictures came up. So I'm hoping that more people get to see these because I'm thinking that this place really isn't common knowledge.

Dunerat, that's exactly what we noticed about the picture with Ron on the rocks also. It looks like the water inside the breakwall is much higher than outside of the breakwall. It's really very cool.

It's gorgeous out there and I highly recommend it. If you like to walk along rocks, like my hubby does, it's a lot of fun. I didn't venture out because I didn't wear my good walking shoes that day and didn't want to slip and fall but I did go out a way and just sat to take in the beauty around me. It was a great day for sitting and taking in the view. But then, there's not a bad day for sitting and taking in the view of THE LAKE!!

Thanks, Mary, for sharing these pictures. I hope it gets more people out there. And the drive along the canal road is pretty good, too.

Great pix, Deb & Ron! I was outta here last night before this opened up.

If you went to Tech, you probably partied out here...

I visited on a number of occasions, and still like to go back when I'm in the area. It's certainly changed a lot since 2002, with the capping of the stamp sands.

I spent a memorable late October/early November late-night out at Breakers watching the Northern Lights - it was the only time I've ever seen red. Unfortunately laying on the cold/damp sands at that time of year meant that I came down with a nasty cold followed by walking pneumonia. Oops?

Thanks Deb and Ron--another terrific place to visit. I hope I get
there this summer maybe even on my next trip to the Copper
Country.
