My father was a Rotarian back in the 60's. I got curious about the emblem and a little research revealed the original Rotary emblem was a wagon wheel in motion with dust. The 24-cog, 6-spoke gear emblem was adopted in 1924. Note that the current emblem includes a keyway to signify usefulness.
Let's hear it for all the great community service efforts of Rotary International, including their ongoing work in the fight against polio!
