Read about this week's dedication of the Big Louie Moilanen monument in Hancock during Finnfest, and a brief sketch of his life at Wikipedia. We have mentioned Big Louie before on "Day in History" but I can't recall featuring him on a Shoebox Memory. But after doing this daily website for so many years, my Shoebox is getting a little fuzzy.

As we say in the South ~ Louie was a 'tall drink of water'!

Louie weighed more than my miniature horses.

That little roadside museum in Osceola location, for any years, displayed a shirt and pants worn by "big Louie". My Dad said he knew Louie's family and that a special casket had to be ordered for Louie. It is said that his ring was bigger than a half dollar.

Oh my word! He really was a HUGE guy!

Another relative. Sort of, anyway. He was my wife's
grandmother's first cousin.
I guess we are all related in the Copper Country.

I remember seeing all that big Louie stuff at Paulson's museum when I was a kid. Holy Wah!! Don't remember his shoe size, but they sure were BIG. I used to love those Nickelodeans they had in there, too. I couldn't imagine how a machine could make such pretty music!
