A few days ago, the skies over the Keweenaw darkened and storm clouds blew in for a good drenching. Tina Sarazin snapped today's first shot, as an impressive bank of clouds approached the Bootjack area. Looks like the calm before the storm!

In the meantime, Melanie Hakala Rossi was in Laurium, where the storm was dumping some good size hail stones. The largest of them were reported to be around marble size. The storm also produced thunder and lightening, into the evening hours when it was able to light up the skies. A good old fashioned, crash and boom thunderstorm here UP North!

I was driving in that hail, on the way back to Eagle River from Mt. Horace Greeley. Thought the windshield was going to break.

All I can say is Oh My Gosh!!!! That cloud is spectacular! I heard it was snowing in Chassell yesterday. Unbelievable!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 08:04 am:

Sorry to say, but I know that storm! Hope not much damage from it.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 08:12 am:

Dramatic photos...that looks like a cat peering out from under the chair in #3.

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 08:43 am:

Awesome shelf cloud! You're right, Alex; not Grumpy Cat, but Forlorn Cat.

By Just me (Jaby) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 08:50 am:

That was the day I put all my rugs out on the deck and uncovered the lawn furniture and left...needless to say-everything was drenched when I returned. oh well.. spectacular photos again!

I would bet Janie is an expert on these types of clouds by now. How ya holding up there??

My fear is that we're going to run into something like this on our way UP next month. Fortunately, we're taking a more easterly route away from OKC or maybe by then things will have calmed down....

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 08:58 am:

Capt. lol! Yes, those shelfers have been around some! River crested and it's going down at a pretty good pace. Life is returning back to good again on the farm!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 09:17 am:

Awesome pictures! We had a hail storm like that one time in Wyoming, but no lightning or thunder with it. Was surprised there was no damage to our car.
I see cat's eyes too, Alex!

By Tom (Tom) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 10:28 am:

I sure hope the weather in the MO, OK, and north
east Texas are better tomorrow. I am driving down
to Lake Jackson, TX and really like going through
those OK mountains. Fun drive with my Mini Cooper S.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 12:20 pm:

It's also fun with a Cobalt SS as well, Tom!! ;-)

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 03:21 pm:

Weather can really be nasty at times.

By Richard L. Barclay (Notroll) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 05:17 pm:

That cat is somewhat suspicious - I see three "eyes!"

By Richard Staszewski (Wisyooper) on Monday, June 3, 2013 - 06:09 pm:

I just had $2'850.00 worth of hail damage to my truck fixed.
Wow looked like someone took a ball peen hammer to! It's all
fixed now, but the hail in Larium was bigger than mine. Was
there lots damage in Larium?
