The flag was flying as always over the Crestview Resort, during its years of operation between 1909-1925. It was located on the rise above Eagle River, which today is only an open field in the woods along the snowmobile trail (which used to be train tracks). In case you missed it a few years back, Clarance Monette and I produced a Pasty Cameo about Crestview. When tourist season begins here in the Copper Country each year, I think of this spot, which used to be a major attraction each summer.

We've had several requests to port our Flash "Cameoes" over to video format so that non-flash users (like iPads) can also see these historical vignettes. Check back later, and I'll see if we can achieve that with the Crestview Cameo.

Have a good week :o)

Looks like a great place in its 'hey-day'!

I know that snowmobile trail well!

The video is great! Thanks for posting it.
The beautiful fall road made me think again that the
Keweenaw has some of the most beautiful autumn drives in
the country, and it's so unknown compared to Vermont, New
Hampshire, etc. Let's hope it remains undiscovered. There's
no where I'd rather be in the fall than Michigan's UP.

The story and video are excellent. Thank you for telling us
about the Crestview Resort.

Looks like it was a nice getaway, including the train ride.

Janie T I like how you update pictures on your profile. You must be near some river in Iowa.
What town? Cedar Rapids. Iowa City?
Spent a lot of time camping in Iowa over the years.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Sunday, June 2, 2013 - 12:01 pm:

Tom, we are about 9 miles northwest of Cedar Rapids. And that is the Cedar River flooding our property. Normally when the Cedar is in it's banks it runs west and south of us about 1/4 mile.

JT...is your house above the floodplain?

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Sunday, June 2, 2013 - 05:29 pm:

Alex, yes it is. It's on a hill. But the big flood we had in 2008, when the Cedar River crested at 35 ft. the river did flood enough that the edge of the water was about 60 ft. from our back door. It was at the bottom of the hill our house sits on. Sleepless nights until the water started to recede!

Glad to hear that JT. Brings to mind Job 38: 'This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’

Amen Alex!
