Tom Lindley, Bill Marlor, Craig Hughes, and Paul Fraley, took off for a Spring Ski this past Saturday, from McLain State Park, skiing along Lake Superior's shoreline, all the way to Eagle River. The entire trip ended up being just over 31.21 km or just short of 19 miles and took them a little over 3 ½ hours.

There was a bit of rock climbing involved in spots and at one point, had a ski slide off a cliff of ice and into lake superior. Tom had to jump down onto the beach to get it and then had to have Bill pull him up a wall of ice using a ski pole. So, the going wasn't exactly easy all the way, in fact Tom said that when they were less than 1/2 way, the crust they were skiing on was softening, the black clouds were coming and the warm 41 degree wind was killing their ability to cover the rest of the distance. But they persevered and made it to destination they had planned, showing up in Eagle River in a downpour.

Their reward was scenery like the photos here today and the bragging rights to having made this impressive trip on skis. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us all, guys!

Photo credits go to: Bill Marlor for the first two shots and Tom Lindley for the last two. Tom also supplied me with all the info on their journey.

Great photos of an epic journey, Bill and Tom! Having raced X-C for many years, I can tell all the visitors here that you guys did the journey at a very impressive speed given the course conditions. Be careful on that ice near the water, gentlemen! (Do you have one of those tossable whitewater rescue line bags? Might be a good thing to bring along for a route like this.)

Now that's what I call stamina. I bet none of you were even sore
the next day. Thanks for your memories of the experience.

It is amazing how much snow and ice remains on the lake shore. It is April 20th isn't it?
I walked down to that beach area as a youth but skiing to Eagle Harbor? No way. Great adventure guys.
