It's finally Spring here in the U.P.... April Fool, our Keweenaw forecast is for some snow to be falling for the most of this coming week. Of course it can't keep on doing this forever, right?

While we're waiting for winter to end and spring to take hold, let's check out the pictures that Brenda Leigh snapped on a recent ski adventure to the Point Iroquois Lighthouse in the Brimley area. Along the way she spotted a few signs of spring on the shoreline of Lake Superior. She said it was a pleasant surprise to see some open water and rocks once again.

Then she came upon this wide crack in the ice and said that her ski pole could not touch the bottom here and that the ice was still two feet thick, so quite a bit of melting has to occur yet, for the water to be opened right up again.

Brenda's last photo is another sign that we're nearing the end of the wintry weather. With the ice beginning to separate like this and bunch up, it can't be too much longer before the winds begin to move the ice around and hopefully out and away from the shoreline, to melt away. We can at least hope!

Good photos. I've been in that lighthouse, and you can see Canada across the water.

I've never been to that lighthouse but have seen it from a distance. Thanks for the icy pix, Brenda.;->

I walked into this lighthouse and immediately felt I went back into time. If you have never gone through this lighthouse, this is a must do.

This is one of my favorite lighthouses any time of the year! There were no cracks in the ice in February when I was there, that's for sure. It was so cold. Thanks for the interesting photos of maybe the beginning of the big melt.

The cracks in the ice are a reminder of how dangerous even thick ice is, like the USCG says; "no ice is safe ice".
