Just in case you were wondering what the ice and snow situation looks like on the western end of the U.P., we have several photos for you from the Ontonagon area today. Frank Jezek sent these in, saying that this is what Spring looks like there.

Those are some dandy icicles hanging from the garage roof in his first photo. Looks like it won't take much more and those large ones on the far left will be touching the ground. Now that's some serious melting and freezing there.

Frank's second photo shows what we like to call an ice volcano, which forms as the water underneath the ice cover starts rocking and rolling, shooting water up through the ice and forming holes such as this one. They're amazing to witness in person and then you realize that there is moving water underneath all that frozen tundra.

The third photo is the view that poor Frank has to endure each and every day. It must be tough to have to look out your front door and see Lake Superior out there, waiting to greet you with her calmness or her fury. ;->

Thanks for sharing her with us today, Frank!

BEAUTIFUL PICTURES FRANK...NICE WORK..!!

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 - 08:17 am:

Beautiful scenes. Thank you, Frank. In the third photo, the ice volcano looks like a giant fish coming up out of the water to grab a bug ... or maybe even a small aircraft. Ultralite pilots beware!

Lake Superior is just beautiful in any season!

If my car was in that garage, it would stay there!:-O
LOL, Dunerat, that was my thought too....a BIG fish!:>

I wish I had to see that view every day! God has truly blessed you, Frank. Thank you for sharing those blessings this way!

I never go out on the ice, on the big lake. Not even in Harbors, because you know there is moving water under that and I don't trust it. This was drummed into me, as I grew up yooper.

Wow! I had never heard of an ice volcano before. Live and learn.

Snowy Spring. Oh, well. That's northern Michigan.

By Frank Jezek (Frankj) on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 - 02:36 pm:

We are blessed Karen, & never stop thanking
God for his beauty. It is always a new view.
You see it as a volcano, but Dee (dear wife)
calls it "JAWS".

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 - 08:57 pm:

Yes, indeed, that would surely be a view to check
every day!

Just to put things in perspective: Last night at
this time, it was a few degrees colder here in
Athens GA than it was there in the UP! Spring is
going to have to start all over again after this
late cold spell.
