When Cindy Freeman and friends made a visit to the eastern end of the U.P. recently, they did so in the midst of one of our numerous snowy systems we've been experiencing of late and this is what she had to say about it:

"The first shot was taken from the overlook deck at Tahquamenon Falls. The couple in the red coats are childhood friends of mine. We went through all of our years of school together and are still best friends, so we invited them to stay with us for a few days, at the cabin we rented. They hadn't been up to Tahquamenon Falls in over 20 years, and my husband Rob and I had a ball taking them to our favorite places!

The snowstorm in the U.P. that week dropped a ton of snow in the falls area, and it was absolutely gorgeous! I had seen it in the snow before, but with the trees coated white and frozen, it was jaw-dropping beautiful! When we got down on the overlook by the falls, I was busy taking photos of the falls and I happened to glance back and saw Elaine and Jim on the far end of the viewing deck. Those red coats just popped out against the white frozen background. They had no idea I was taking their picture. It was one of those photos that you just can't plan. It just happens.
I agree with Cindy on all counts...the scenes are definitely "jaw-dropping beautiful" and the red jackets against the white background, couldn't have been any better had it been planned that way. Thanks for trudging through the snow and down the steps to snap and share with us all, Cindy!

I visit this site every day but don't post often, but these photos are too spectacular not to comment. These photos take me right there, something I don't get to do in real life often enough. Thank you Pasty Cam and Cindy for sharing.

Thank you, Cindy, for making that COLD trek amongst the beautiful scenery and sharing it. But glad it was you and not me.;> We had snow showers on and off all day yesterday but thankfully none of it stuck!

The U.P.'s snowy winters definitely provide fun and scenery for awesome pictures!

By Cindy, New Baltimore, MI (Cindy) on Thursday, March 14, 2013 - 09:17 am:

Thank you, Mary, for sharing my trip to Tahquamenon Falls. It was really a fun day! The scenes are so beautiful, it makes you forget how cold you are (almost). Really, it is a true winter wonderland. After your hike to the falls, you can always warm up at the restaurant/pub on the grounds of the state park and have something hot like soup, chili, or maybe a pasty at a table near the big stone fireplace, of course. I love the falls in all seasons, but winter is really special.

The photos today really picture what we have been experiencing here in the U.P. snow snow and more snow... Yet-winter does make for the most beautiful pictures and these pictures are spectacular!

THIS is why I love Pasty Cam. I can sit here in Baton Rouge 1360 miles straight south of The Falls and get a great idea of what life is like in God's Area Code. Thank you.

I'm curious....do the Tahquamenon Falls every freeze over completely?
