If you were in the area and able to get to any of the CopperDog 150 events this past weekend, you know the excitement the mushers and their dog sled teams create. We were able to watch a number of them as they passed through Lake Linden near the Traprock Bridge and the crowd would clap and cheer them on, as they swished by. Very exciting!

Today's photos from Brockit, inc. will give you a taste of what it's like to be right there on the sidelines watching as the teams rush past with a wave and a thank you from the mushers, as they call to their team, "Hike! On by!"

we were at the trap rock bridge, then sunday was such a beautiful day we took a ride north and ended up watching team after team go by the cliffs. i took some movies with my little digital camera. the movies turn out pretty good, too. it was great to watch them. then on the way back home there was another spot we stopped and watched a few teams go by. by the time we got back to calumet, we watched them as they crossed pine and 5th. st.to the finish line. those dogs and mushers are so incredible to watch. it was just a good day to be out and about.

A fine line between smiling and grimacing...:o)

My son has a dog that he harnesses to his bike and you can't believe how excited it gets when you say bike ride. That dog can run so fast and pull, that my son doesn't need to pedal. They often ride on a tow path and the dog loves it. There is no cruelty to the animal and a great way to keep the dog in shape.

You would think more Siberian Huskies would be a part of the race. But the Copper Country is a perfect spot for such an event.

I have a late addition that I just had to share, since it's such a neat shot, from Taana Kalliainen. She was working as a volunteer for the race and snapped this shot of Alaskan musher, Ryan Redington, who thought that it was just a little warm during the race and decided to go shirtless! Now that's some real SISU!

If you'd like to take a look at the other photos Taana snapped, check out her Facebook album here: Gone to the Dogs - CopperDog 150 - 2013

Sometimes the wild comes out in a person, I have been known to snowmobile in a T shirt and shorts in mid January. I was sober too..... :)

Hi
I think that I read somewhere that the mixed-breed with hounds (which is an unofficial breed known as Alaskan Husky)is both faster and more obedient than the purebred Siberian Husky. I think most northern dogs (Alaskan Malemutes, Siberian Huskies, Samoyeds, etc) are independent-minded.

Speaking of obedience, you'd need that in a dog pulling a bicyle, like Sarah ("porter") mentions.
