Eagle River is filled with deer this time of the winter. But today they'll have to make room for some visitors, as the Copper Dog 150 has a new route that brings them right into town. The courtyard around the Jail and Courthouse usually sees several dozen deer milling about, but they'll no doubt retreat to the woods when the doggies arrive later today!

Thanks to the Archives for the neat old dogsled shot (we'll have more on this Sunday's Shoebox Memories) and thanks to Melanie Hakala Rossi for the nice Eagle River Deer portraits. The Pasty Cam officially started 15 years ago today - right here in Eagle River - when my son Jonathan and I committed to bringing a picture-a-day to the Internet from the U.P. That was back in 1998 when they still used hand-cranked computers and tin-type photography. My how things have changed. For more than half of the Pasty Cam's run Mary Drew has been your regular weekday moderator, and she'll return tomorrow as we continue on into the 16th year of this daily feature.

In case you had not heard, Jonathan and Katriina had their baby this week! (Actually Katriina did most of the work :o) and we hope to have some pictures of the new arrival later today. Stay tuned :o)

Congratulations, Charlie and family! So that little one wouldn't wait for March 1st, eh? May God continue to bless you all!

I like the picture of the deer with the apple in it's mouth, and the dogsled picture. I note that one of the dogs--look kind of like a lab mix---is keeping an eye in the competition.
