Most of the time when your window is frosted, it's your windshield and you're in a hurry to scrape it off so you can see, to get on your way. But after viewing these frosty shots from Melanie Hakala Rossi, taken with a macro lens of her garage windows, I'll be thinking twice before I scrape that frost off again. This is natural artwork at its finest, with the frost forming icy fern like shapes. I love how the backdrop is such a beautiful blue, highlighting the feathery look of the frosted art. The detail is quite amazing and I not only thank Melanie for snapping and sharing her photos, but for reminding us that we all need to stop and take in the details of the simple beauty that surrounds us here in the Keweenaw.

Great photos Melanie!! The only advice I would give is that when using a macro lens, watch your depth of field so that you can get the entire field of view in focus. If your camera is so equipped, use the depth of field preview button to get a view of what will be in focus and what will not before you shoot the photo.
Otherwise, a fine example of nature's artwork captured forever.

When I was a little kid living in Paavola I loved the ice paintings on the windows. I asked my mother how does that happen? She told me it was Jack Frost. I still enjoy seeing that kind of art. I don't have a macro lens for my Easy Share Kodak. :o)
