The sun was shining brightly, warming up the cold temperatures for the 11th Annual Lake Linden-Hubbell School Forest Fun Day. And what a fun day it was. Sally Beaudette was out there snapping photos of the activities which included sledding, snowmobile rides, a bonfire to roast marshmallows, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and of course food to sustain everyone for all of those activities, served in the School Forest building, where a fire was blazing in the hearth to take the chill out of your toes.

The last two photos were taken by my son, Al Drew, who joined us Saturday morning for all the fun out there. He even crawled inside the Quinzhee, that the 5th grade class had built the weekend before, where he snapped a photo of his youngest son inside and another as he crawled back out through the entrance.

It was great to see all the smiling faces and the kids having such a great time out there with their classmates and friends and family. KUDOS to the Lake Linden-Hubbell School District for putting this on, year after year and a BIG thank you to all the volunteers that were there to make it a success. Job well done!

Another nice Glimpse of Life in the U.P. to start the day. Sorry for the late start, as our Keweenaw network was down awhile this morning because of the extreme weather. In fact, this is the first day this year of which I am aware that FedEx has cancelled the truck routes which pick up pasty orders at our kitchen in Kearsarge. They don't want their drivers out in these conditions, and we can't blame them. If you ordered pasties to be shipped today, we are postponing those shipments until tomorrow (hopefully).

This morning Edie and I are in Hamden, Connecticut, visiting the kid who started the Pasty Cam with me 15 years ago. Well, at least Jonathan was a kid then, but now he's is expecting a kid of his own, which lovely wife Dr. Katriina is getting ready to deliver any day now.

Jon and Katriina and their future bundle of joy are scheduled to move back to the Keweenaw this summer, after many years of living in the places where Katriina's medical education has taken them (most recently to Yale). As a going-away gift, in just 2 days, Mother Nature delivered 40 inches of snow to their home here in Hamden last week. When we arrived yesterday, a lot of it was still on the ground.

A new baby due, how exciting, Congratulations to Katriina & Jon! 40 in. of snow, wow! I think Eastern Iowa normal snowfall is 30 inches for the entire winter!

We've gotten enough snow this year for me to have made my kitten a quinzhee, I think, although it's all gone now. When I was a kid and did that, I never knew the name - always called it a snow hut or snow fort. Didn't last long down here, but was fun while it stayed up! But that's back when the LP got some good snows, too. Wonderful pics, Mary - thanks to Sally and Al; having fun with the kids outdoors is the best!!

All the best to Jon and his beautiful wife, Dr. Katriina! Nothing as wonderful as welcoming a 'newcomer' to the family!:) God bless you all!

What a fun day at the LLHS Forest, and I love the warming cabin! Great pictures!

Congratulations Jon, Dr Katriina, Charlie, and Edie, on your impending arrival! Best wishes for an easy and safe delivery! That will be awesome!

I really enjoyed the photos today as they brought back memories of wonderful times that my daughter and I spent at school forest fun days. I see Ray is still driving the kids around on a snowmobile. He is such a good guy!

I too love the cabin and all the smiles on the children who are out enjoying nature.

I also love the thought of a new child entering our world. Especially knowing it will be very well taken care of and loved. Best to you Jon, Katrina and the new little one. Oh and grandma and grandpa as well.
