Frank Jezek took these photos during and right after one of the recent "blows" of winter that we've had. You can see in his first and third photo, how the visibility worsens during the storm around his Ontonagon home. With snow falling and the wind whipping it around, it's difficult to see very far ahead of you. But once the winds die down, you can see off much further in the distance, all the way to Lake Superior in Frank's second shot.

I have to say though, that the last photo is absolutely my favorite. It's what makes enduring the cold and snow here UP North, so worth it. When the sun comes out and lights up all the snow that's fallen, even making it sparkle if you get down close and look, that's when the beauty of our North Country really shines through.

Nice pics!
Mary...I was thinking the same thing on the way to work this bright-sunlit morning, the calm after the storm.

Pretty pix. We have no snow (thank goodness) but we do have the sunshine this morning!

Beautiful! I love Michigan winter scenes. The different seasons make it a special place.

Heikke Lunta has paid us a visit here in Connecticut. Just measured 39" on the deck. Sheesh! I feel like I'm back in the copper country!

Lots of snow. Don't think it's anything compared to New England states right now.

Fantastic photos today of winter's beauty!

Amazing pictures! Happy snowmobilers and skiers!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, February 9, 2013 - 11:43 am:

A foot of snow fell here in Toronto yesterday. People are having a
hard time getting around. Lots of folks are still trying to shovel out
their cars. No one has a Yooper scooper around here. This is the
biggest single day of snow we've seen in Toronto since 2005. TROC
(The Rest of Canada), excepting British Columbia, gets much more
snow than we do. It looks beautiful today, but in a day or two it
will look grubby.

Beautiful pictures! ;)

Great pictures, Frank!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, February 9, 2013 - 11:35 pm:

What great pictures today! Frank's a lucky guy to live where he does. We're supposed to get a storm starting later tonight. It'll probably cripple some around here, when in Michigan it'd be considered a dusting, lol!

Can't wait. Gonna curl up with my blanket and a good book and watch the snow come! It'll prepare us for the UP next weekend.
