You never know what you might see out on the ice, once the lake freezes over. On the day these photos were snapped just recently, Emma Stout was watching a red fox walking along the ice near their home on Portage Lake. She figures it was out on the ice, looking for something to snack on. From the looks of the tracks alongside where it's walking in several of the shots, he's either been this way before, or he's following the trail of another critter that headed that same way. It looks to have a healthy coat of fur and what a beautiful color, too. I'm sure glad Emma was keeping her eyes open and her camera ready to capture this adventure on ice.

And, it'll be interesting. Charley bought the General Store "as is"...filled with the stuff that was in it, when it closed in the '40's...I have toured the store. It's 3 floors, and I saw 2, with my jaw scraping the floor....wait till you see! :D

I was so excited to see the fox pictures today. I have not seen a real fox around here in quite awhile! Great photos ,Emma! Keep up the good work!

A couple of times this summer I was lucky enough to see one of the
young foxes living in a den near my dad's camp at Little Perch Lake.
It was a thrill to watch them saunter across County Rd. 581. A
couple of people were even luckier--they watched the mom playing
with her two little ones in the evening after the local dogs had
retired for the evening. Good work, Emma!

I love Foxes. They are a rare treat.
