A fresh blanket of snow fell on the Keweenaw Peninsula last night. This is the view out the window on winter mornings at our home in Eagle River (and it's not even winter yet!) With sudden Lake Effect snow we get a little nervous this close to Christmas, because of the volume of pasty orders we've committed to ship out of Calumet. Hopefully the FedEx trucks will get through OK.
I looked back in the Archives and found this shot of the old outhouse, which appeared on December 19, 1998. Look at the difference in the height of the trees.
Your regular weekday moderator, Mary Drew, lives over in Lake Linden, and she usually prepares the pictures the day before. I happened to see her Google chat light on this morning when my day started about 4am (as her day was just ending). We chatted about sudden changing conditions here in the U.P., and the continual need for more pictures. Here's an idea we came up with: Between now and the end of the year, if you see a CURRENT scene you'd like to share on the Pasty Cam - whether in the U.P. or elsewhere - email it to mdrew@pasty.com. We will post as many of the pictures as we can, then select one of the photographers to receive a special prize: a bag of Trenary Toast. We will call it our "Toast to 2012" and announce the winner at the end of the month (end of the year).
