Patty Rheault snapped this photo last week, of an Eagle that landed in the field on their farm in Bootjack. Looks like there was a bit of a snow squall going on, so it makes me wonder if he grounded himself because the visibility was poor or if he was in search of some dinner and had spotted something that needed a closer look.
Either way, it's a pretty spectacular photo with the image of our national bird, shrouded in the snowfall. Thanks for sharing it with us all, Patty!

Thanks for sharing indeed, Patty. I get a thrill when I see an eagle up above, but to see one like that is double the thrill. Love the pics!

Wonder about the eagle being ill. Possible right?
By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 - 02:47 pm:
Possible, but I have seen eagles (both Bald and Golden) sit on the ground like this and eat or as Mary suggested, maybe taking a closer look at something. I remember once near Paulding on 45 seeing 2 eagles on the ground tearing apart a deer that had been hit and killed, so it's not that unusual actually.

Hope you're right, Capt., I also had thoughts like Rowdy.

Back in May when I was UP north, I also saw a couple of Bald Eagles on the ground feeding on a carcuss in a field. It gave a good perspective as to how large those birds really are.

Hog farms in the area here will run dead hogs through manure spreaders in fields, attracts a lot of hungry Eagles.

That's nice. All we see down my way are vultures/buzzards.:(

What an amazingly beautiful photo! There are always so many photos of eagles but never before have I seen one as serene as this. Thank you Patty for the great photo and Mary for the wonderful story.

Wow! Great pictures of a beautiful bird. That Bald Eagle might like a warm hat in that squall.
