Technically, we're experiencing a winter thaw, here in the Keweenaw, which once again shows how quickly our weather changes around here. A week ago we were being covered in snow and now it's soft and melting, but don't worry, winter will be back, I'm sure.
Today's photos were taken during those snowy days, by my niece, Paula Drew. That's her hubby, her daughter and her nephew, getting ready to have a mini sledding race, which you can see didn't take them very far, but from the smiles on their faces, it sure didn't matter to them at all.
Then she snapped an interesting shot showing the branches all laden with snow...if that's not a good pictorial of what a winter wonderland looks like, I don't know what is. It kind of makes me want to run through all the branches, knocking the snow to the ground. :->
Paula's last photo is one I'm sure many of you can relate to having done if you grew up here in snow country. Making snow angels is something most of us Yoopers pass on down to our younger generations, so the art of this snow making design lives on each year. There's something "freeing" in laying down in the snow and swishing your arms and legs back and forth to make your angel. The tricky part, though, is getting up without wrecking your design. Raise your hand if you've ever made a snow angel!

Looks like Paula's nephew's head start backfired on him. He 'went' and his sled didn't.;)

There will never be any electronic game that will be better than playing outside. The possibilities are endless!

I love snow fun. It is a peculiar thing. Some don't like. Some can not tolerate the cold. Some even go in to deppresion. It is wet, cold and void of color. Yet, for those that do like it, it brings smiles and good fresh air exercise and its beautiful and exhilarating and fun.

as a kid we got ahold of some food coloring and had fun with it in a snow covered field. we would build walls of snow, to hide behind for snowball fights, and decorate them in someway. when my mom found out what we were doing, she got out there with the food coloring herself. she was an artist and we had the best 'color snowwalls.' talk about fun. she made a bullseye one time and we hit it with snowballs of different colors. (paintballs) LOL...LOL...it was fun.
